Edenred needed to evolve its digital development capabilities to respond more quickly to business needs. With the implementation of a product team model, it was possible to improve prioritization, reduce delivery times, and increase the capacity for continuous evolution of its platforms.

Present in 42 countries with nearly 8,000 employees, Edenred creates networks of trust between companies, employees, and businesses to drive solutions that motivate, enhance team well-being, and help companies become more effective and attractive. The products Edenred manages are social benefits or non-monetary enhancements that complement employees' salaries, such as meal vouchers, childcare vouchers, or transportation vouchers among many other products.

Edenred focuses on people from a technological perspective, which is why the company is immersed in continuous digital transformation to anticipate the future and provide innovative value solutions to freelancers, small, medium, and large companies, fostering a more agile, practical, social, and sustainable work environment.

This platform allows companies to manage and administer all flexible benefits and compensation systems for their employees, and employees to consult and configure their constant needs. Our goal with this project has been to transform the experience of Edenred's platform clients and users, taking it to the highest level.

A Cross-Functional Approach

At Runroom, we have configured cross-functional teams adopting a methodology centered on agility and collaboration between technology, design, and business roles. We work simultaneously on the conceptualization and delivery of real products in each sprint, while iteratively building a solid design system. Our goal with the design system has been to create agnostic components that can be reused in any context to gain consistency and speed.

Based on user needs, we design their user flows to build what they need most. Using and scaling the component system to ultimately integrate the React frontend with the backend APIs.

The essence of our approach lies in cross-functional teamwork, where collaboration between business, UX, UI, and technology drives our progress. By enhancing joint work, we ensure that our products meet customer needs at a steady pace, sprint by sprint.

Comparing this approach with the traditional method where business-driven design is first and then passed to the technology team for implementation, we clearly see that the benefits of working simultaneously, at the same pace across all roles, are immense. Less documentation, fewer inefficiencies, fewer loops of back-and-forth inconsistencies and problems, and above all, higher product quality.

From user flow, we move to stories and from these to wireframes, always co-creating, from there, in the same sprint, design and technology advance on the same challenge.

The key to a project of this nature is having business, design, and technology in the same squad, co-creating solutions as time progresses, applying continuous discovery in order to receive feedback every sprint and with the potential to iterate by adapting to real customer needs. This allows us to reduce uncertainty, save time, and achieve the desired quality.

During the sprint, we advance in each discipline by conducting constant reviews. These reviews are carried out every two days, allowing us to unify our work and achieve smooth integration. By the end of the sprint, we have already implemented the front part integrated with the backend APIs using React, along with the design and business needs discovered in the same period. This cyclical process becomes the engine that drives our value creation.

Thanks to the work methodology and the client-centered focus, we have helped Edenred become faster and more efficient in product creation.

We also achieved this thanks to our approach to continuous discovery to understand, through testing and other tools, that the steps we took were aligned with customer needs.

To this end, we have helped rethink the organizational model of the teams and integrate different disciplines into a single team to generate autonomy and purpose.

The Basis for Efficient Projects

Additionally, we believe it is important to highlight the value of the storybook and the design system developed. Beyond creating the functional product, we have generated a storybook that contains all the components of the project, serving as a reference for any project Edenred undertakes in the future.


This storybook will serve as a foundation, both in terms of UI/UX design and React frontend components. Thanks to this approach, we can leverage previously created components and adapt them to implement new identified needs. Most of these components have already been implemented in an agnostic way, making them easily applicable in any context. This context independence allows us to build new solutions for Edenred in an agile and efficient manner, thanks to the versatility and power of this storybook and the design system.

We highlight the cross-functional and agile approach adopted, which has proven to be highly effective in creating quality products and meeting customer needs.

Additionally, Edenred was willing to transform its organizational model and internal culture. Moving from a model divided into functional silos to establishing a unified product vision, where business, design, and technology aspects converge and operate at the same speed. This convergence allows for more efficient addressing of challenges while improving the quality and speed of final product delivery.

Storybook and design system become key and effective tools for the development of future projects, allowing for the reuse of components and the rapid adaptation of current ones to new needs.
